Pardon my salty language!
But frankly, these are the kinds of prayers I pray -- nice, safe, generic prayers like this:
“Jesus, I would love for you to heal me of this ailment, but whatever Your will is, do it!” (Unsaid thoughts: You are likely unwilling to do it, but I guess I should ask.)
“Jesus, I would love for you change ___ , but if it doesn’t happen, I know that is what You must think is better.” (Unsaid thoughts: If you can’t do it, no worries, I understand.)
“God, may Your will be done today.” (Unsaid thoughts: “Well, that should cover the whole day. At least at the end of the day, I’ll know it was ‘God’s will’”)
Jesus says if I ask anything in His name, He will do it. He has only one condition – that I abide or remain in him. (John 15:7)
In other words, if I am journeying along with Jesus, continually staying close to Him, I can ask whatever I want in him. When I allow His specific words (Scripture) to incubate, grow, and stay protected in my heart, he gives me what I ask.
I want the faith to ask…I just might receive!
Jesus, I am done praying piss-poor prayers. I want to pray specifically. No more safe prayers. Show me, Jesus, how to pray. Show me the specific scriptures you want me to pray. Help me to memorize them. Help me overcome my lack of faith, Lord.
PS – One of the things I am doing through this 10 week Believing God series is memorizing scripture. It’s slow going! Right now, I am memorizing Romans 4:20-22. Join me?
Today’s Challenge: What are some of the “piss-poor” prayers you pray? What are some scriptures God is giving for you to pray?
